Spent this Saturday in November at Baruch College in New York City attending Wordcamp NYC 2009 with about 750 of my fellow “geeks”. Wordcamp is an opportunity to learn everything there is to know about WordPress, the amazing software that is behind this and most of the blogs that are on the Internet.

One of the reasons that WordPress draws people to gatherings like this all over the US and the world is because it is open-source software, a giant community based software project that is free. There is a large network of people who use, support, extend and generally make WordPress more important in this web “publishing” space than anything from Microsoft, Google, Lotus, or any other major name in computer software.

Kudos to the Wordcamp NYC organizers for putting on a great event. There was much to be learned and shared, and I can’t wait to go through my pages of notes and put what I learned into practice.

I hope I never get to a point in my life where this learnin’ stuff isn’t so much fun! (well, aside from trudging up and down the flights of stairs at Baruch’s “vertical campus”.)

I really need to work on whipping my body to be as in shape as my brain is.
