Those of us of a certain age can remember when the act of doing something by phone was still a very big deal. Paying a bill over the phone was cutting edge stuff, and if I recall correctly, my father was just as distrusting of the idea as many are of paying a bill online now.

That trip down memory lane was triggered by two things, the first being that I just remembered that “Mad Men” is on television tonight. That the show perfectly captures the Jet Set era of the early 60s, is a testament to the obsessive attention to detail of series creator Matt Weiner. What a great show he has created. If only all of TV was as good.

The second item that led to this post was that I’m typing this on my iPhone. Using the WordPress app for iPhone (yes, there really is an app for that) I can write and edit my little blog from anywhere.

And yes, I can still pay my bills on the phone, but now I do that with a keyboard, rather than having to talk to someone on the other end.

Progress marches on.
