Another note from the just ending vacation. I had decided not to take my laptop with me on vacation, but given the way things work–I knew if I didn’t have it, I would need it for some pressing reason. Since the Disney resort hotels aren’t known for having great business centers, I went ahead and threw my laptop into my backpack. I rationalized this decision with the thought that I would be able to dump off my digital camera’s pictures onto the laptop each day, which I actually did.
But the fact was that I didn’t use the laptop for much else. Disney’s internet service in the hotel wasn’t that great and despite the weather issues (see earlier post about that), we didn’t spend much time in the hotel room.
I did stay in touch, using a lot of my iPhone3G’s capabilities. I found that I was able to do just about whatever I needed to using it, including emails, texting and the occasional call to locate other family members who had strayed from the herd.
I point this out only because I would put myself in the category of “compulsively connected” and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the iPhone would allow me to think about going on a trip without a computer and not feel like I had left civilization in the process of doing so.
Plus the break for my carpal pummeled wrists wasn’t a terrible thing either.
Maybe Smartphones have finally gotten smart enough. For whatever life throws out there.
