Back from the annual rite known as the summer vacation trip, and was it ever a trip. Eschewing the norm of the past few years of renting a beach house and spending a week doing as little as possible, the family outvoted poor old dad, and we spend the past seven days at “The Happiest Place on Earth”.
That’s right, we went to Walt Disney World.
And in case you haven’t seen a weather or news report all week, we went at the same time that Hurricane wanna-be “Fay” dropped in for an overly-extended visit to Florida.
So let’s review, you go to a place that requires a lot of walking around when its raining and windy. Thus your best friend becomes a piece of plastic sheeting known as a rain poncho. And a place known as “The Sunshine State” has almost no visit from the sun the entire time you’re there.
This all might lead you to believe that a good time was not had. You would be wrong. It was a pain and sometimes just a little dreary, but give them credit where it’s due–the Disney folks know how to keep you entertained and having a good time. We didn’t have to stand in lines forever (there were lines, but just shorter ones) and the place is so damn big with so much stuff to do–it was a decent time.
And the one day the sun made an appearance, I got a serious sunburn. Even with SPF70 on. Go figure.
Back here in the Connecticut HQ, the sun in shining brightly and it is quite nice for the one final day away from work.
Kind of defines that whole ironic thing, doesn’t it?
